Food & Drink
Generating 12% of the region's income, the food and drink sector in the Northwest is one of the largest in the UK. The industry and its supply chain account for 15% of the region's employment and is renowned for its strengths in red meat and cereal processing, dairy production and fast-growing areas such as prepared and speciality foods.
Nestle, Heinz, Kellogg's, Patak Foods, Fox's biscuits and Vimto are just some of the well recognised names with bases in the Northwest, while a growing number of innovative independent companies and small-to-medium-size businesses such as Booths of Preston ensure the growth of the sector has an important role to play in the regional agenda.
To ensure the needs of the food and drink sector are represented, the Northwest Development Agency has supported the formation of Food Northwest >>>
Food Northwest: The food and drink sector has been identified by the Northwest Development Agency, (NWDA) as a priority growth sector within the Regional Economic Strategy and Food Northwest is tasked with boosting the growth of this dynamic industry. The establishment of Food Northwest, which builds on the work of the Northwest Food Alliance, simplifies support for businesses. It brings the existing 13 industry support organisations under its direction, providing a clear voice for the development of the sector and providing a focal point for the industry.
